02_tip_collecting.jpgIn order to ensure precise and safe delivery of bulk materials to their destination vessels, the transfer of powders is a critical but often time-consuming process. Manual powder handling, due to the toxicity of certain substances, poses unnecessary health risks and the potential for cross-contamination.

Our stainless steel equipment efficiently handles bulk materials, ensuring a dust-free environment. These systems quickly and securely distribute powders across production lines, minimizing contamination risks.

Whether you need to move powders in small quantities, ranging from 5 mg to several grams, our vacuum transfer systems, feeder systems, and pneumatically controlled systems have got you covered.

The Zinsser REDI-Tool Solution

Our powder conveying systems, ensuring the safe and efficient transfer of powders.
Zinsser offers you a comprehensive solution to your materials handling needs, prioritizing speed, safety, and precision, with a focus on maintaining a dust-free and contamination-free environment through state-of-the-art conveyor systems and processing systems.

The Zinsser REDI-tool handles weights from 0.5 mg to 1 g, making it ideal for dispersing free-floating powders. It seamlessly integrates into various workflows and customizes for customer-specific vials or containers.

To extract a precise powder amount, the REDI-probe uses a specially designed PTFE-tip (REDI-tip), adjusting its protrusion for the calculated volume. Different strategies, considering material characteristics, target weight, precision, and throughput, achieve the desired weight.

Preparing for aspiration involves the powder source vial mix up in the REDI Shaker position by ‘tapping’. The probe switches from vacuum to pressured shots, dispensing powder onto the balance in the destination vial. After the final dispense, the REDI-tip is either dropped or returned to the storage rack for reuse with the same powder.

Cleaning the REDI-probe occurs in an ultrasonic bath, followed by a drying step. For personalized support aligning with your needs, contact our dedicated commercial team regarding Zinsser's REDI-Tool solutions.

Performance in Powder Distribution

Powder distribution performance is a critical aspect of handling particulate materials accurately. Achieving optimal results relies on various factors and parameters. Here's a breakdown of key performance considerations:

  • Reproducibility Levels:
    • It's possible to achieve impressive reproducibilities, such as ±5% for 10mg, ±2% for 50mg, and ±1% for 150mg. However, actual performance depends on the nature of the powders being handled.
  • Particle Characteristics:
    • Suitable particles for powder distribution are typically greater than 5 microns in size, free-flowing, and homogeneously distributed.
  • Optimization Factors:
    • Carefully manipulating various factors can optimize performance in powder pipetting:
      ■    Particle Size: Especially fine particles, plays a crucial role in achieving precise distribution.
      ■    Particle Size Distribution: The uniformity in particle size distribution is a key factor for accuracy.
      ■    Density: Particle density actively influences the handling and distribution processes.
      ■    Electric Charge: The electric charge of particles can affect their behavior during distribution. Electrica charge is removed with deionisation tool
      ■    Hygroscopy: The degree of hygroscopy in particles can impact their performance in powder handling.

How Does Powder Handling Work?

Understanding the intricacies of 'Powder distribution' is essential for efficient and precise handling of particulate materials on automated lab systems. The following bullet points outline the key steps involved in powder transfer systems:

  • Particle Agitation:
    • The process begins by a gentel ‘tapping’ of the source vial. This step ensures an even distribution of particles within the powder.
  • Aspiration:
    • A specialized tip aspirates the powder for further handling and distribution.
  • Particle Adhesion Mitigation:
    • Since the tip comes into contact with the powder during sampling, there may be instances where some particles adhere to the outer surface, potentially impacting reproducibility.
    • To address this issue, an ionisation station is included in the REDI weighing set. Deionisation of the target vial and REDI tip is realized.
  • Distribution to Destination Points:
    • Once the tip distributes the particles, it conveys them to a single vial or multiple destination vessels on the balance.
  • Cleaning and Maintenance:
    • After distribution, it's crucial to clean the REDI adpter thoroughly to prevent clogging and carryover of particles. This automated maintenance step ensures the system's reliability and longevity.
